Job Requirements

Eligibility

2. Education: Candidates must possess a master's or doctoral degree in a field that is directly relevant to the YPP Business Areas.

 

3. Experience: Demonstrating relevant professional experience or continued study at the doctoral level** is a key criterion, as outlined below:

  • World Bank & MIGA placement: Applicants are required to show a minimum of three years of practical experience in a relevant field or an equivalent level of continued doctoral studies.

   

  • IFC placement: Applicants should exhibit a minimum of four years of relevant experience in finance, project/program development, economic development, or consulting. Additional certifications such as the CFA are advantageous.

 

4. Language Proficiency: Proficiency in English, the primary working language of the WBG, is essential. Fluency in one of the official WBG languages—Arabic, Chinese, French, Portuguese, Russian, or Spanish—provides an added advantage.

Application Process

The application period for the Young Professionals Program (WBG YPP) opens on July 3 and closes on July 31 for all profiles. For IFC profiles, the application period extends from August 15 to September 30. It is crucial to ensure that you meet all eligibility requirements before applying. Short Essay Question

In 500 words or less, please answer the following prompts: 

1. Why are you interested in joining the World Bank Group Young Professionals Program, and what qualities make you a strong candidate for the program? State clearly your preference for participating in the program at the World Bank, IFC, or MIGA.

 

2. Many countries face complex challenges resulting from overlapping crises such as disease outbreaks, climate change impacts, conflicts, and financial crises. Given fiscal and resource constraints, how would you advise the World Bank Group to support countries in addressing these challenges? Please include strategies to increase governments' capacity to respond to the needs of vulnerable populations, collaborate with the private sector to mobilize financing for development, and engage with the international community. If possible, support your response with examples based on your technical expertise and experience.


YPP (WBG) Interview

The YPP interviews will be conducted using a hybrid format, incorporating virtual and in-person components. The interview process may consist of the following:

1. Pre-recorded interview on Hirevue.

2. Live panel interview.

3. Assessment center, including individual and group exercises.

4. Timed computer-based financial tests for IFC candidates.
